Michael K. Koster, P.I., IAAI-CFI, CCAI-MCFI, CCAI-CFI, NAFI-CFEI, NAFI-CVFI, CFCI is a Fire Cause & Origin/Fire Investigation Expert Witness who has a long list of Certifications related to his expertise with all aspects of Fire Investigation. He works on cause and origin of fires of all types, including residential structural properties.
During his advanced fire investigation classes, Mr. Koster participated in, and deliberately set, 23 fires and explosions in a structure and multiple vehicles to observe fire spread, behavior, and explosion effects. The fires and explosions duplicated incendiary type fires.
As a 25 year member of the fire service, Mr. Koster has responded to over 6000 fires. As an investigator, Mr. Koster has been involved with 3800 fires. In addition, he has handled his K-9 partner at 1350 fire scenes and collects and preserves K-9 related evidence. Mr. Koster is highly regarded by his peers. He is extremely thorough and detail-oriented.
Mr. Koster has a Professional Affiliation with the East Valley Investigation Network (EVIN). The EVIN consists of representatives from various surrounding fire departments, police agencies, private investigators, insurance adjusters, the District Attorney’s Office, and ATF. The EVIN provides valuable training and networking relative to the investigation of criminal and non-criminal fires.
