Ralf Goericke, Ph.D. is an Algae/Aquatic Ecology Expert Witness who has worked with algae in the laboratory and on algae in natural systems for over 30 years, primarily addressing the questions, “What do algae require for growth? How fast do they grow? and what are the products of growth?”
Dr. Goericke holds an M.A. in Ecology from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography with focus on marine algae, from Harvard University.
Beyond algae Dr. Goericke has extensive expertise in aquatic ecology which started at Indiana University with training in Limnology (freshwater systems). Since he completed his study, he has broadened his research focus to the level of the ecosystem.
Dr. Goericke has also studied the ecosystem of the Southern California Bight, looking at the growth of unicellular marine algae, the production of dissolved organic carbon by these and the dependence of their growth on physical and chemical factors in their environment and their relationship with higher trophic levels.
