Richard A. Young is an Aquatics Safety Expert Witness and has 35+ years of private, public, commercial and water park experience both as an operator, manager, equipment supplier, contractor and consultant. Richard developed Aquatic Commercial Consulting (ACC) in 1992 and since then, ACC has consulted on hundreds of public, institutional, commercial and high-end residential pool and water park facilities throughout the nation and abroad.
Mr. Young has worked for 36 years as a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Instructor, 18 years as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) instructor, Certified Pool Inspector Instructor (Pool & Hot Tube Alliance, PHTA). He has also been published many dozens of times including books and articles on swimming pool construction, operation and safety.
Mr. Young has been a speaker at dozens of regional and national swimming pool and water park conferences. A few of these are:- World Water Park Conference – Annually 2009 through 2015; National Recreation and Park Association Congress – twice, in 2007 and 2012; California Park and Recreation Conference – (3 times) 2000 through 2009; International Associate of Amusement Park and Attractions (4 times) 1998 through 2005 and Bay Area Pool Operator’s Association – Regional Conference – 2014.
He has been a consultant and expert witness for over 60 clients and cases including: Drowning and near drowning, Diving and diving board accidents, Chemical burns and water chemistry, Injury due to equipment failure, Waterslide accidents, Legionella, Asthma and Mars infections, Construction conflict disputes, OSHA and Code compliance.
